Beer-Breath Kisses, by Damon McKinney

In this short hybrid prose collection, grit lit meets small-town honky-tonk. Damon McKinney weaves his own family narratives within fictionalized landscapes of reservation life as the world of Eastern Oklahoma glows the shade of red clay dirt, offering a glimpse into the realities of trauma and what remains in its wake. The speaker in these stories grieves the loss of both a place and the people that made it home while remaining hopeful that Beer-Breath Kisses may linger a little longer.

Damon McKinney is an Indigenous author currently residing in northeast Arkansas. He has a bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. He’s a member of the Sauk and Fox Nation of Oklahoma. His body of work is found on various online literary magazines. He is the former managing editor for Emerge Literary Journal, former contributing editor for Barren Magazine, and former fiction editor for Likely Red Press. He’s been married for twenty-one years to his wife, Sara, and together they have two children.
