Writing Place: The Mid/South Anthology Seminar

Led by Belle Point Press Editor Casie Dodd

Saturday mornings, 10-11:30am: January 7-21, 2023

What does it mean to write with a “sense of place”? How is it distinct from other types of writing? While people often associate these questions with environmental concerns or regional consciousness, there are many possibilities when considering how a writer’s surroundings can influence their work.

Our new three-week seminar will explore these themes from a variety of perspectives, ranging from famous place-based texts to contemporary publications focused on place. Participants will also engage with work in our Mid/South Anthology to consider how they may apply fresh perspectives to their own work.

Sessions will include group discussions of the texts as well as generative prompts to support participants on both sides of their literary work as readers and writers. We hope to see you there!

Pricing options:

  • $80 includes access to all three sessions + a copy of the book (shipping included)
  • $60 includes access to all three sessions without the book
  • We have reserved up to 3 fee waiver slots for the seminar. Participants interested in this option may email to query: no explanation necessary
  • For those unable to attend but still interested in this seminar, we will make a self-guided resource available after the seminar
  • Participants will receive a meeting link via email after registration ends

Registration is open until December 15!
